Moniek van der Kallen is full of stories,
My goal is to tell captivating stories. Stories that inspire. Dance, or film or social media, each medium is simply another mode of story telling.
And each medium has it's own sets of rules, limits and opportunities.

Why film?
As a kid, my time was spent watching Disney magic for the escapism and MTV and The Music Factory to kill time. Until one day, I stayed up late to watch the uncensored version of the ‘Smack my B* up’ music video from The Prodigy. A a fourteen year old, I thought I was a decent feminist, but this video made me aware of the traditional characteristics of men and women being ingrained in my brain.
For the first time, I was gobsmacked with the impact a film had on me as a viewer, and my passion for film was born.
Why production?
Whether I'm producing a dance recital for 180 amateurs or a commisioned documentary about the skills of primary school children, it is a joy to create order for the creatives around me. I derive pleasure from my own creation process, as well as the creativity of others.
Why dance?
From a very young age, I like being in the spotlight. When I was 5, I danced the Joropo on stage and got the know the such you feel on stage. I made my mom sign me up for jazz ballet. I flourished there and when I was 16 I started teaching dance.
During my studies I kept on dancing and teaching and eventually became the president of the student dance society Studance.
With the creation and direction of my first dance film, I knew: there is no greater accomplishment for me, than to share my own creation with the world.
